Fibonacci was really called Leonardo of Pisa - he lived in the town with the leaning tower from 1170 to 1250.

I found most useful the fact that he discovered the square numbers are formed by adding odd numbers. He first published this in a book called "The Book of Squares". An annotated translation of this book into English is still sold by Amazon.
